So we all want to know that one secret trick, diet, pill or food that is going to help us lose our unwanted weight right?
Well unfortunately that secret trick is a myth. We are all very different individuals with different needs and genetic make-up. The real “trick” to losing weight is to make conscious choices every day around what we put in our mouths. I know this doesn’t sound very glamorous… but this is truly the key to losing and keeping off those excess pounds. Before you eat something or order something think about how it is going to make you feel afterwards! Does having 5 cookies make you feel good or do you instantly feel guilty? One of the best ways I have learned to fight late night food cravings is to keep those “unhealthy” snacks out of the house! Also eating small healthy regular meals throughout the day can help stabilize our blood sugar and all but eliminate the desire for unhealthy treats!
This may seem very obvious to you, although you’re probably thinking “easier said than done!” So here is one change you can make in your life to help get the weight off!
CUT OUT SUGAR!
Now I don’t mean the obvious things like ice cream, soda, cookies and candy. I mean start looking at the ingredients of everything you buy… you will soon realize that sugar is in almost ALL processed or packaged foods. The hard part is recognizing the millions of names sugar has. In order to help you with this we have included a printable document below. Keep it handy on your shopping trips as a reference so you will start to recognize some of the aliases sugar hides behind as well as healthier sweetening choices.
The first time I did a candida cleanse (no sugar allowed) was when I really noticed how much sugar we consume on a daily basis. This was a very frustrating, disturbing and educational experience! Soups, pasta sauce, many types of salsa, “healthy” chips etc. all had sugar. So I stuck to a clean whole foods diet (avoided the inside aisle of the grocery store and focused on REAL food) and started making my own food so I could trust the ingredients it contained. I can honestly tell you the weight comes off and in a health way… not in a crash diet kind of way! This is not a one week diet. Instead it is a lifestyle change and if you are willing to make the commitment to it the health benefits are endless.
Indulging once and a while is OK of course. Food is fuel but is should also provide pleasure and sometimes, when spending time with family and friends, we don’t want to be overly stressed about “party food” ingredients. However, once you get into a healthy-eating lifestyle you will likely notice you crave less of the sugar-loaded foods and may even start to pass on dessert!
